There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

OCTOBER 6, 2012 -- GARDEN HARVEST

GARDEN HARVEST
OCTOBER 6, 2012

Withe the threat of a freeze last night and again the next 2 nights, it is time to pick over the garden just in case we lose it.  After a wonderful morning session of General Conference, we all went out to the muddy garden and picked a bounteous harvest of vegetables.

Just look at the size of that Swiss Chard leaf!  The stems were tough, but we harvest so much chard! After I washed and chopped, we had 10 gallon size ziploc bags stuffed with Swiss Chard ready to steam!  Yummy!

Now come the bell peppers!  Can you believe these?  We had 15-20 that were large and beautiful and could have been bought at the store!  I was so proud!

Some of us thought we were going to go crazy with all the vegetables that were in the house -- and the little yellow lady bugs that snuck in with them!

Some of us (Louie) just watched in awe!

We have lots of chili peppers and Annaheim peppers!
I have all ready roasted, chopped and frozen a bunch of these.

One big head of cabbage came through!  This was on a plant that was planted in June, but the heat just was too much, but now that it has cooled down it put out a head!!! Yahoo!
I forsee some delicious Borscht!

Rebecca and Sister Fleming have a little fun!
Rebecca is always ready for a picture with Louie and don't forget her fish!
Lately, Rebecca will come up to me and cast a pose and ask, "How do I look?"  This could be when she is ready for the day or when she is decked out in "jammies" for bed.  She is a fun girl.
I am just so excited about how much we harvested from the garden.
We are going to see if for the rest of the month we can live on garden and food storage (except for buying milk.)

Daniel shows off our enormous head of bok choy!  This will make a couple of pots of bok choy and noodle soup!!!

I felt so "pioneerish" with all our veggies!
But it took over 3 hours to wash and store all the veggies!

Mason and David were great helpers by watching a movie!
