There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

NOV 2013: OUR MISSIONARIES

MISSIONARY UPDATE
NOVEMBER 2013

I want to document some activities of our missionaries -- Hyrum in Taiwan and  Melissa in Florida.  We are so proud of them and the service they are giving to people in their own part of the world.
Both are working hard and growing so much!

I, Mom, was so excited to get a picture of Hyrum.  He has been sending really cool pictures of enormous spiders and beautiful country side.  Thanks Hyrum for taking one of you for your mother!  Doesn't he look great!  Looking like a missionary man.  I am proud.
Sometimes I still have a hard time believing that Hyrum is really a full-time missionary like the elders that we feed here in Arkansas!  How did he ever grow up so fast???
Enormous spider!

BAPTISM!!!!   Yahoo!!!!

I don't know if it is individual personality or a difference between boys and girls, but we receive lots of pictures from Melissa.  Maybe I rubbed off a bit on her -- she is great at documenting experiences!!!

Melissa has tackled everything put in her path from chainsaws to sting ray to
being a trainer on her 1st transer!  And now
is an American Sign Language Missionary!

JULY 12, 2013: AN MTC REUNION

AN MTC REUNION
JULY 12, 2013

Hyrum and Melissa overlap in the MTC for only 6 days!  With 3,000 missionaries at the MTC, we didn't know if they would see each other!  We received an email on July 15th from Hyrum letting us know that they had met finally on Thursday, July 12th, by accident, in the cafeteria!  I wish I could have seen their surprise greeting that Hyrum describes.  Knowing Melissa, it wasn't quiet but was full of excitement and love!!!!  What fun!  Hyrum and Melissa have always been close -- only 14 months apart -- and it is so appropriate that they serve missions at the same time!  What a blessing!
This one is per mom's request!!!  So awesome!
QUOTED FROM HYRUM'S WEEKLY EMAIL:
On Wednesday, when Melissa was supposed to come in, I spent about an hour waiting for her car to come, but apparently she just walked in! So I was sitting eating breakfast on Thursday, minding my own business, and I looked up and there she was! I was so excited! I got up and gave her a hug, which was received by surprise from all the other missionaries around us. (NOTE FROM MOM: When you are a set apart missionary for the church, you put a lot of things aside and one of them is girls, flirting, hugging girls, dating,  etc. So for Hyrum to jump up and start hugging a beautiful girl that no one in his district had seen before was a bit of a shocker!  This added info makes the story a bit funnier!  I am sure their excitement to see each other created a bit of a scene!)
Our meal times overlap by about 15 minutes, so I've been able to see her at almost every meal these past few days. It's been really fun!
Attached are some pictures of us.
Melissa wanted me to tell you that her P-Day isn't until Wednesday, so she can't email you yet, but she will.
They both look so happy and amazing!!!

Our missionary countdown for Hyrum!  Melissa's is in process!
We change the number each night at family prayer and then include our missionaries in our family prayer -- and of course they are still sung about in our prayer song!!

MAY 14, 2013 -- PACKING HYRUM FOR HIS MISSION

PACKING HYRUM FOR HIS MISSION
MAY 14, 2013

In all the excitement of getting Hyrum to the MTC, I forgot to post these few pictures of the night before when we packed him up!!!  This is all Hyrum will carry with him to live for 2 years!  There is a lot of value in simplicity!!!
We got Hyrum a new set of scriptures for his mission.  This small, compact size will be nice for him.  It was to small to fit "Elder Richardson" so I went with "Elder Hyrum."  I liked it!
From the time Hyrum was set apart as a "full-time missionary" he took that seriously.  No cell phone, no radio, no electronics, etc.  Hyrum took time to sit down and continue to get familiar with the guidelines in the "Missionary Handbook."  Some missionaries through the years have joked and called it the "Missionary Bible" or the "Little White Bible."
This is it!!!  Hyrum's personal belongings for 2 years!
He has: 10 white short sleeved shirts, 2 long sleeved white shirts, 10 ties, 12 pair of black socks, 2 pair of black shoes, PJs, exercise clothes, rain jacket, umbrella, 1 suit, 5 additional slacks, shower shoes, sandles for Taiwann, 1 set of sheets, power converter, passport holder, scriptures, dirty clothes bag, a few hangers, 12 pair of garments, a super durable belt -- "a rachet belt!", a new watch, battery alarm clock, bath towel, hand towel -- and that is about it!
Basic necessities!

MAY 22, 2013: "PAPARAZZI MOMMY"

"PAPARAZZI MOMMY"
MAY 22, 2013

So...... this morning I came to Alison's and I was dressed in my exercise clothes so I could take a walk around the Provo Temple.  I dropped my things off at Robert and Alison's apartment and I got a text from Melissa!  It read: "I just saw Hyrum crossing the street from the MTC to go exercise!" I of course had to ask more questions -- she was on the bus to campus and Hyrum didn't see her.   Well, now what do I do!  If I go on my walk I will surely see him!
Well, I went on my walk anyway and as I walked the sidewalk south of the temple I peered over into the sand volleyball area and there he was!  Elder Hyrum Richardson!  I wished I had my good telephoto lens!
Well, I finished my walk and they were still there so I went into Alison's apartment and snagged my camera! I didn't even leave the apartment lawn area, I snatched a few pictures and he never new!!!

Elder Richardson is in the grey shirt and black shorts to the right of the tree!
