There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

DECEMBER 5-10, 2013: SNOWED IN!

LITERALLY SNOWED IN!
DECEMBER 5-10, 2013

We have a beautiful winter wonderland here in Fayetteville, AR!
On Thursday, the the storm predictions came true and we started with freezing rain during the day which turned to little tiny snow pellets in the evening and then it snowed all night and all day the next day until about 4pm.  We ended up with about 1" of ice that was topped with about 11" of snow.  To some this does not seem like a big deal, but to our part of the world, it shuts down the city.  Our temperatures have not been above 32 degrees for 5+ days.  It has stayed cloudy and the snow has not melted off.  Public schools AND the university have been shut down for 3 days.  Tomorrow the public schools are still out but the university will be open from noon until only 6pm.
We have tried to get our cars out a few times, but have not been successful.  We live on just enough of a hill that Vernon couldn't get the car or van out past our drive way.  The car sits at the bottom of the driveway in the cul-de-sac.
Today there was great excitement because they got the van down the driveway and up the hill from the cul-de-sac to head to town.  Unfortunately, Bridgewater Road was so, so icy that Dad/Vernon afraid that he wouldn't make it back up that hill to get back home.  They carefully turned around and came home.  We don't have a 4-wheel drive vehicle and the 15-passenger van doesn't do snow and ice very well.  We did have the missionaries over for dinner tonight and they made it in and out so we have hope for tomorrow!  I think Dad/Vernon will be able to go into work and take Brian to work at 11am tomorrow.
School has continued as normal since we homeschool but we have had lots of snow playing!
At first, Mason bundled up all excited with the other kids and took one step out the door and very quickly said, "It is COLD!!!  I am never going outside again!!!"
This was where Mason observed the fun in the snow that first day!
It wasn't long until he was convinced to try again
and he had some fun in the snow!!!

Cooking "S'Mores" over the "fire" and drinking lots of hot chocolate keeps us all warm and "sugar-fied"!
Daniel and David have built igloos and have begged to sleep in them!  This mother humored them with being out there in the evening for a bit, but with temperatures dropping to zero -- they came in after a bit.
Brian has been fun to have here for this snow since he is a "California Boy" he has had as much fun as all the other kids!

We are grateful for the beautiful snow, for a warm house, for plenty of food, for electricity, and for our family!  We are so blessed!

LOTS OF SNOW PICTURES!

"Snow Angels"
This was a casualty -- the kids have been "skating" down the icy brick, but this time it went bad.
Our frogs are freezing!
Hollies are pretty in the snow with their red berries!
Brian tried to open the van door -- iced shut it was!

He got it loose and look at the deep snow on top!

The made it up the hill from the cul-de-sac!
