There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

APRIL 27, 2012 -- LOST GALLON OF MILK

 THE LOST GALLON OF MILK
April 27, 2012

As innocent as a gallon of milk may look, it can be a deadly bomb if it gets lost in the floor area of a 15-passenger van!  As we arrived at the choir show on Thursday night, a lost jug of milk came rolling forward from under the bench.  It was bulging and quite a scary sight. I said, "We should throw that away before it bursts and stinks up the van."  Well, we got out, enjoyed the show and when we returned to the van and opened the doors, the kids were hit with quite a smell.  The bulging milk had sprung a small leak and had drained half the gallon onto the carpet of the van between the front seats.  It was bad!!!
We made it home and Dad was so good to get the carpet cleaner and we worked and worked on the carpet and it is better.  Next time, we count the gallons of milk carried into the house to make sure one isn't left behind!

APRIL 23, 2012 -- NEW RECIPES

BEEF STIR-FRY AND CINNAMON ROLLS
One of today's joys was trying 2 new recipes and having them both be a big hit with the family!!! We had "Beef Stir-Fry with Brown Sugar Glaze" for dinner with brown rice and then "Vanilla Pudding Cinnamon Rolls" for dessert!  These cinnamon rolls were absolutely delicious!!!  Look for the recipe in my blog "Connie's File Cabinet" http://conniesfilecabinet.blogspot.com/ in the Table of Contents.

APRIL 21, 2012 -- KANSAS CITY TEMPLE OPEN HOUSE

ROAD TRIP TO KANSAS CITY -- April 14, 2012

We had the chance to take the family to Kansas City to the temple open house.  What a great opportunity for our kids!  We enjoyed walking through the new temple and reminding the kids about their temple sealings and the 2 times that some of them had been in the temple all ready in their lives!  Rebecca and Rachel recognized the baptismal font.  Bethany and Matthew were excited about seeing the font and knowing that in just 6  months they will get to go to Oklahoma City and do baptisms at the temple there.
We are still in the Oklahoma City Temple district, but we might make some family road trips to the Kansas City temple -- the kids would love to do a Saturday at Worlds of Fun!!!  Temple on Friday and Roller Coasters on Saturday!  What a great potential!!!

After the temple, we went to Liberty, MO and toured the Liberty Jail there and then over to Independence to tour the visitor's center there.  It was a full day.

APRIL 11, 2012 -- EASTER HUNT 2012

This year, mom was in Utah for Easter Sunday so we postponed our Easter Egg Hunt for a few days! On Wednesday, April 11th, we had our yearly hunt!  It always works out well to have "the hunt" after Easter because then the candy is discounted and the kids love a candy blow out!  This year we hid 160 eggs which meant 16 per kiddo!  Yahoo!  We have also included several pictures of our beautiful lavender Iris!  Wow they are gorgeous this year!

APRIL 21, 2012 -- PROM

PROM -- APRIL 21, 2012

Wow! the children grow up so fast!  We have loved enjoying Hyrum's high school years.  Hyrum has been the "master party planner" in the family so far and Hyrum's senior prom was no different.  After the dance, Hyrum and 34 additional friends came to our home for an "after prom party" and we had a blast until 3:00am!!  The kids enjoyed the big bon fire, they did the cha cha and the swing on the basketball court, played ping pong, and enjoyed just hanging out and talking.  At 1:30am, we served them breakfast of plain pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage, bacon, OJ, and milk.  It was a hit.  The kids all seemed to enjoy being at our home and we loved having them.  We really appreciated the help from other parents and were glad that parents felt their kids were safe in our home.  What a great memory!!!
This is a picture of Hyrum and his date, Sami Belford.  She is one of our most favorite gals at the high school.
