There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

MARCH 9, 2013 -- PINEWOOD DERBY TRIALS

PINEWOOD DERBY TRIAL
MARCH 9, 2013

Well, the past couple of years, we have become a "non-derby" family.
We have such competitive blood and it is just too competitive of an event.
So -- the past couple of year, Vernon has bribed the boys that if they will skip the pinewood derby then he will take them to ride go carts,
to drive a real car, for free.
It has helped that the stake took over the derby competition,
so our ward level even is just a trial run.
This year, David took the bribe and so I cut his car,
he painted and he did his own wheels, etc.
Vernon didn't really get involved except to help him put
on a little graphite.
Vernon was running young men activities and I was helping with the young women so David was sort of on his own.  His scout leader helped him hot glue on some coins to get it up to regulation weight and I helped find the coins.
So with a roof loaded with quarters and hot glue, David entered the evening with no expectations.

Things started to change as we watched the new wolf leader pull out tropies and prizes!!!  This was no longer a trial run but a real competition!  David's eyes got really big when he saw the trophy and I felt bad !!!  His expectations for his little derby car just went up!!
I was worried.

Would you believe that David's little blue car kept getting faster and faster.
He won most every race.
He was first place in the 1st set of races and got 2nd place overall in the second set of races.  He had a fast car and he did it all by himself!!!
He was so elated and so proud!!
Vernon and I just rolled our eyes -- all the years of stress and worry.
We learned -- just let David make the cars!!!!
David is such a GREAT young man!!!

By the way -- we did skip the stake pinewood derby and
David still gets to go to "Locomotion" and ride the go carts!
