There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

MAY 21, 2014: SILK FACTORY ATTEMPT

SILK FACTORY TOUR ATTEMPT
May 21, 2014

We set out on a field trip to the "No. 1 Silk Factory" south of old town Suzhou.  We walked through the park to Xin Han Jie to catch the bus.

Rachel takes in the scenery.....

We waited at the bus stop for LONG time and wondered if we knew what we were doing but we endured and finally ...... bus 108 showed up and then there were 3 bus 108s!  There must have been a break down somewhere and they got backed up.  No wonder we waited so long!  We were glad to be out of the heat and on the bus.  Off we headed on our adventure.

We took the bus south and got off and walked across the canal and then down along the road that paralleled the canal.  We knew we were close, but we just couldn't find the silk factory!  We walked and walked and took turns, but no silk factory.  NOTE:  a few weeks later I was driving with a friend down this same road and found out that we were just 50-100 yards away!  We just didn't walk far enough down the road!  Oh well.

We walked up a little alley road and it was a bit of culture shock for some of the kids.  The reactions we got from the locals made us think they didn't have many foreigners walk their way very often.

We found a candy shop and stopped and let everyone pick out a treat!

We then found some street food we had never tried.  It was a palm leaf wrapped around sticky rice and a chunk of pork/fat in the middle.

We never found the silk factory, but we had a good day!
