There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

JUNE 19, 2012 -- PLAY DAY WITH THE CLAWSONS

SCENIC DRIVE DOWN 71
Today was our last big day with Robert and Alison before they go back to Utah.  It seems that things are just starting to settle down here at home and now it is time for them to leave!  We sure have loved having them and they have given so much service to our family!!!!
Here are the adventures of our day!!!

FIRST STOP:  ARTIST'S POINT
This is basically a gift shop along the highway south of Fayetteville, about halfway to Alma and Fort Smith.  It has a landing where you can look out over the valley and the big river and it is just beautiful!!!  Of course, Rachel loved this little TP outside the gift shop.

Bethany, Rachel and Rebecca have a look out over the valley.

Sweet!

The beautiful view!

The owner of this gift shop/house had about 10 feeders out the back windows and it was amazing!!!  There were dozens of Hummingbirds there feeding!  It was so fun to watch!!!  I had fun taking pictures of them and trying to get them in flight!
The woman also had this large Cockatoo that she let the girls pet.

Back in a little "museum" area, there was this old pay phone and I tried to explain to Rachel that this is what in the "olden days" we used to call home while traveling -- before cell phones.  She thought it was comical!

 SECOND STOP:  MOUNTAINBURG CITY PARK
South of Artist's Point, there is a small town called Mountainburg.  Once when I had driven this road, we saw this park and have always wanted to come back.  Well, today we stopped and played for a bit!

They have these really cool dinosaur tunnels!
 Robert and Alison swing!
Rachel rides the race on the horse!

Mason likes the dinosaur!

Rebecca likes to be "queen of the mountain."

Rebecca and Rachel pretend to play tennis.

Benjamin is "chillin" -- normal teenage boy!

Rebecca does tricks on the monkey bars.

Bethany is "queen of the mountain" now!

Well, the tunnel was a little small for Rachel, but she finally got out!

THIRD STOP:  RUDY, ARKANSAS TO VISIT PARLEY PRATT'S GRAVE
Robert was really interested in visiting Parley P. Pratt's grave.  Robert has read his autobiography and took a Church History class this past semester so he was excited to see the memorial to a man he has learned so much about.  I was thrilled to listen to him talk and to learn from Robert!!  I didn't realize the Parley had been shot!  I thought he had died of illness.  We learned lots of tidbits from Robert about this great man.

Robert Clawson -- a Pratt scholar!

Mason kept hiding from me behind the sign, but I managed to snag a few pictures with him in the frame!

Mason by the grave of a child.  Don't know the connection, if any.

Here are the engravings on the memorial.

Robert and Alison take some time to appreciate the special memorial to a great man who was a faithful missionary and leader in the early days following the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

FOURTH STOP:  WENDY'S FOR LUNCH then the FAYETTEVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
No pictures here, but thought I would document it.  Alison gave me the idea to go ahead let the kids get their own library cards.  They are now old enough to understand and feel the pain of consequences to learn from them.  I have troubles keeping track of library books because some of my kiddos will not follow the rules and leave them in the basket in the sitting room!  So --- Rebecca, Benjamin, Rachel and Bethany all have their own library cards.  They were able to check out the limit (set by me) of 3 books and now they are responsible to keeping track of the due date and getting them in.  Any fees accumulated -- they will pay.  Any lost card -- they will pay the $1 replacement fee.   We will see how it goes!

LAST STOP:  HOME
We finally arrived home.  We relaxed a bit, took naps, and I cooked dinner.  This evening, we made our camp dessert of Eclairs.  We wrapped crescent roll dough around a dowel rod and cooked it over our indoor campfire -- the gas stove.  When it is done, we slide it off the dowel rod, fill it with vanilla pudding and frost the tops with chocolate frosting!  They are delicious!!!

David loves his Eclair

Mason performs a chant from girl's camp:  "What do we think of Dad?"  Mason says, "Amazing -- clap, clap, clap -- Uhhh!"  The fists pulled down is for the  "Uhhh!" part.
Sweet Rebecca
