There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

OCTOBER 24, 2012: PACK MTG, YW IN EXCELLENCE, AND LANTERNS

PACK MEETING, YOUNG WOMEN IN EXCELLENCE, AND LANTERNS
OCTOBER 24, 2012:

Tonight was busy since we had 2 kiddos at dress rehearsal for their play, Dad and 2 kiddos went with the scouts to the "crime lab" at the Springdale Police Department and I stayed at the church with Mason and did a split shift between Young Women in Excellence and Pack Meeting!  Whew!
It was great!
Rachel and Rebecca had displays for Young Women in Excellence and it was a really nice program.

Rebecca displayed a picture of Mason because she likes to take care of little kids, a toy fish and fish net to represent her fish tank, and several books that we have read in homeschool so far.

Rachel displayed several things that she has made from your creative ideas!  She displayed a doll bed that she and her friend made out of craft sticks for her American Girl Doll, a purse that she made from scraps of jean pants that I threw away after cutting denim quilt blocks, and she displayed the football helmet and shoulder pads that she made out of cardboard and duct tape.

After the program, we went outside and the girls all lit lanterns that represented themselves and sent them rising up into the dark sky.  This represented them rising and shining in the world with the flame being their testimony of Jesus Christ that burns with in them and carries them through life.  It was really cool!!!

Mom helps Rachel get hers lit but with the wind and our inexperience, it didn't get airborn.  The sides of the paper lantern burned enough to make a hole and then it didn't work.  BUT..... our experienced helped others  learn and they were successful and learned tricks to get them airborn and Rachel went around and helped others and loved it!  Mason did a great job supervising!

Here is a lantern taking off into the night!

To the right, Rachel helps Rebecca work to get hers ready to float!

The rising lanterns were really a beautiful sight!!
All the materials in the lanterns are biodegradable and environmentally safe!!  No wires, etc. :)

PACK MEETING
During this time, Daniel and David had Pack Meeting.  For their activity, they were able to explore a fire truck that came to the church parking lot just for them!
After their activity, they called me in and I was able to take pictures of them getting their awards!!!
Daniel earned 4 or 5 Webelo Activity pins.  David earned his Wolf Badge with 1 gold arrow point and 4 silver!!!  The boys are going great!!!
Daniel and David are quite the energetic boys!  They loved the fire truck and were so proud of their awards in scouts!
