There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

BETHANY'S TEAM WINS
"BATTLE OF THE BOOKS" COMPETITION

Bethany and her other 5 teammates of "Pillow Pets" have been working ALL year reading from a suggested list of books and memorizing titles with authors.  The past month has been practice rounds and competition within the 5th grade to come up with the top 5 teams.
Today in the competition of "Battle of the Books",  5 fifth grade teams had to answer questions related to a certain book from their list (about 95 books on the list) and give the answer of the book and the author.
Bethany's team came out the winners and received 145 out of a possible 160 points!  Bethany was so excited!  Next week they get to go to the district wide competition where one 5th grade team from each of the 12 elementary schools in Fayetteville will compete!
Bethany and her trophy!
The Pillow Pets Team!  Everyone on the team got a trophy!

The team confers on the answer!!!
We got it right!!!
A sample of the questions.  Question is put up first.  The teams have a 1 minute to write their answer on the dry erase board.  They "reveal" their answers at the same time and are awarded 5 points for a correct answer -- and the book title is added to the screen.  Then all teams have a chance to get the correct author for 3 points and that information is added to the screen.  Then finally, a picture of the book cover goes up on the screen.  There are 2 questions per round and they play 10 rounds.
