There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

May 25, 2012 -- FRIDAY & 1ST DAY OF SUMMER

CONCRETE, KOOL-AID STAND, AND DANCING

Today was one of the best family days every -- it was "heaven" for me as the mom!  Let me tell you why!
I am so excited about our last big landscape project.  This will finish the "hardscape" for our outdoors and then the rest is planting, weeding, and maintenance.  The concrete came today for the first half of our pathway.  It is looking good!!!

Big trucks always make me think of by big brother, Ross.  I always wish it was him pulling up to deliver our stuff!

4 of our newly planted trees!

Pouring concrete down along the pond.  You can see our new "Cork Screw Willow" down on the right lower part of the picture to the left of the boy in the white shirt.  It should triple in size in the next year or so!

There is our big Maple tree waiting to be planted.  They have to finish the concrete work first!  It has been so windy that we had to tie down the trees to the garden trellis!

KOOL AID STAND
Since it was the first day of summer, of course Bethany had to plan a "Kool Aid" stand.  They made some brownies, too.  We aren't sure if they ate more than they sold -- we think they did -- but they made $8.00.
The man who has done our dirt work, Steve, said he stopped and bought a brownie from the kids.  He said that he asked one of my daughters how much the brownies were and she replied, ".25 for one and .75 for 2."  He then said, "What if I pay $1 for 2 brownies."  My daughter, which I knew immediately was Rachel and not Bethany, gave him a "thumbs up!"  Steve got a big chuckle out of that one!!

FINAL PARTY
Tonight, Hyrum and his friends wanted to have one more big party before many of them start off on summer plans, trips, jobs, etc.  It was so great!  This group of kids is great and so much fun!!!  There were probably about 20-25 kids here with a core group of about 15 that stayed the whole time.  They went swimming, cooked BBQ, played on swings, sat and talked, played basketball, played "knock out", danced -- ballroom style with the swing, fox trot, waltz, cha cha, etc.  It was so fun.  Vernon and I even joined in on one swing number!!!!  It was a fantastic evening!  I told Vernon that is was heaven for me!
During the daylight hours of the party, Vernon and I worked on some landscaping and tranplanted the water Iris.  The party kids played with Mason and included Rachel, David and Bethany.  Rachel and Bethany got in the pool later and swam until about 11pm.  Fun stuff!!!
