There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

FEBRUARY 1, 2015 -- FEBRUARY FLIGHT DAY #7

PENANG DAY #2
February 1, 2015

This morning, Amy and I enjoyed our morning getting up, reading scriptures and getting ready for the day.  Dad and the kids’ flight was to land in Penang at 8:20am.  I didn’t think they would get here until about 11am, but when we went down to start watching for them at 10:30am, they were all ready there and had been waiting for about 40 minutes!!!  I couldn’t believe they caught a bus so fast and got here so quickly!

They were all sitting out under a large tent that had been set up for a big ceremony called “The Eye Dotting Ceremony.”  There are several associations of some sort that work to get sponsors to pay for a dragon head and costume that is used in Chinese New Year Celebrations.  There were 50 dragon/lion heads all lines up in a grid and there were youth that were in matching pants to wear the dragon head and do a dragon dance.  The ceremony is where they used holy water to dot each eye on the dragon head to consecrate it for its use during Chinese New Year.  We were told that they get messed up and then are thrown out and new ones have to be made holy through this ceremony in order to be used for celebration.  It was really interesting.  The kids were all starving so we went on up to our apartment and fed them while Amy stayed down and watched the dragon dances.
This afternoon, we just enjoyed being here at the apartment with air conditioning and a great view out our window.  We had a nice Family Home Evening and we had our first chance to really talk to Richard about Jesus Christ and the gospel.  It was a very nice experience.  He asked questions throughout the day and we just had a great day.

This evening, the boys left to go check into their hostel.  We made plans for them to arrive at 7:30am to watch the Super Bowl!!  We don’t every watch the Super Bowl since it is on Sunday, but with the time difference it is on Monday morning here!  We could watch it!!!

Free lunch!
