There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

JANUARY 31, 2015 -- FEBRUARY FLIGHT DAY #6

PENANG DAY #1
January 31, 2015

This morning I was up and moving a bit early because we had to buy adapters for our devices so that we could charge computer and i-pads.  I needed my computer so that I could go call dad at 9am and check in with him about the kids packing and getting ready to go.  Amy and I had learned a few things in our travel yesterday, so we passed on some tips to the kids for their packing. As we were leaving the building, we heard music and found a "Zumba" session in progress outside.  Amy and I joined in for a bit and had lots of fun!  We got back on track and headed off to by the adapters so we could call the family back in Suzhou.  The kids are all supposed to bring only one backpack with very little to last the entire month of February.  We spent the rest of the morning making calls to Alison and Grandma and Grandpa Beach.  We then took Mason swimming and then we finally went to find the bus terminal and then walk the path for Dad so that we could give him details.  We also walked up the road to find their hostel so that we could tell them where that was.

Our Malaysian money

On our way back, Mason found a small cake in the bakery window with a little “Pikachu” toy on it and thought it was so cool!  He had been such a patient and positive trooper all day that I couldn’t resist buying it for him.

Our last task was to go to the grocery store and buy food for Sunday.  Dad and the kids would arrive early and would be starving so we needed food for them so that we didn’t have to go out to buy on Sunday.  By the time we waded through the Gama Grocery Store and then waited in the long line for 30 minutes, it was late.  While in line, my credit card would process.  The man behind us kept us informed and said it wasn’t the credit card but the machine.  The cashier tried to get a manager but wasn’t getting help.  The man in line behind me found out that the manager’s name was “Lilli” so he, himself, started calling out “Lilli”, “Lilli” in a really loud piercing voice!!  It was hilarious.  Another store worker came over to see what he was hollering about and then finally asked him to not yell.  They finally got it to work.

We walked home with our 2 enormous bags of groceries and we stopped to buy 16 baozi for breakfast and then made it home to unload.  I then ran back out to buy us dinner and a case of “100 Plus” for our lunch tomorrow.  Amy and I ate our dinner as we watched Karate Kid and drank our “Iced Milo.”  It was great!  All was well until my bag of Milo (chocolate milk) fell over onto the ground and the straw popped a hole in the bottom of the plastic bag and it started squirting everywhere!!!! Yikes!!  I quickly got it put into 2 glasses.
We have great plans for our Sunday meals:  baozi and bananas for breakfast; sandwiches with cheese, chips and 100 Plus for lunch and then curry chicken and bruyani rice for dinner.
By the time we were all done, we were exhausted.  Time for bed.

Amy said, "This is what happens when you shop with mom."

BACK IN SUZHOU:
The kids packed all day and cleaned house.  Peiling, Richard’s mom, came about 5pm and brought them all subway sandwiches for dinner so Vernon didn’t have to cook.  It was very, very sweet!  Kelli Dougal, who is going with us on the trip, got on the wrong direction of bus 8 and ended up needed a miracle to get a quick taxi and her prayers were answered and she made it to the house in time for their ride to the airport at 7pm.  The family flew all night and landed in Kuala Lumpur and then caught the short flight to Penang.
