There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

FEBRUARY 15, 2015 -- FEBRUARY FLIGHT DAY #21

BANGKOK DAY #3 -- CHURCH IN BANGKOK
FEBRUARY 15, 2015

Today was the Sabbath, so we had figured out how to get to church.  We took the subway and then walked and were so excited to find a sign pointing us to the church!  We had to leave early this morning, so we stopped there near the church and bought some crepes for breakfast.  We also went across the street and bought some donuts at “Mr. Donut.”  The boys all went on to the church and it had just started sprinkling.  By the time I waited for the last crepes to be made and got across to the donut shop, it started to pour a crazy amount of rain!  Yikes!  The girls and I sat there for awhile hoping it would lighten up, but it just didn’t.  We finally grabbed our stuff and made a run for it down the small side street to find the church.  There were quite a few people standing at the door of the church watching us run in drenched from the rain.  They simply said, “Welcome to Bangkok!”

We stayed for the entire block of meetings which was nice.  We had missed that the past couple of weeks.  We were in the English speaking ward and we sat right in front of the Bangkok mission president and his wife.  That was fun because just a few weeks prior, I had seen a video on Facebook about the Bangkok Mission and how they do their assignment of new missionaries.  It was really cool and we talked to them about the fun things they are doing in their mission!  During Sacrament Meeting in continued to rain and rain.  During one of the talks, the speaker used the scripture found in Helaman 5:12.  At the part of the scripture where is reads “the shafts and the whirlwinds……”  it was raining so loud you could hardly hear the speaker!!  It was a nice “special effect” to the talk.  J
The kids went to primary and youth Sunday School Class.  Dad, Amy, Kelli and I went with Richard to Gospel Essentials Class.  This was Richard’s second time at church and first time in Gospel Essentials.  He had some good questions.  The class was a very large class – 26 in all.  It was interesting to hear everyone introduce themselves and to hear their story.  There were 3 people there who were seeking “asylum” from Pakistan but the backlog in Bangkok for those seeking asylum is 3 years!  That means they can stay in the country but they are not supposed to work and they cannot get their interview until 2018 to be officially and legally accepted to stay in the country.  I don’t understand it all but I am glad they have someplace they can go for safety.
Here are just a couple of thoughts from our lessons today:
“Things work out best for those who make the best of how things work out.”

The story of the wheat and the tares was applied to our lives today in that we are living amongst so much evil – we are living as wheat among the tares.

After church, we went back to our hostel and relaxed.  We had dinner at the Chamchuri Food Court and walked through a local temple on our way home.  It was very interesting.  It was interesting to see a mixture of what seemed to be Hindu Culture and Buddah Religion.  There were live cows there that you could buy grass for an feed as a prayer offering.  There was also an ATM in the temple area and Dad cracked us up when he said, “Look, there are money changers in the temple!!!”  Hee Hee!
