DAY
#5: KUALA LUPMUR: Visa pickup and travel to Penang
This morning we packed up and went up out to the rooftop pool to take some pictures. We had to have some daytime pictures of this beautiful place!!!
We also needed some pictures out of our apartment window!
We then headed out for breakfast. We had to have
some Roti Paka and Roti Basan and orange juice one last time! We took it with us to go.
We were really loaded with luggage so we took
a taxi to the Chinese Visa Support Center that cost us about 10 ringgit. It was worth it!!! Mason’s backpack broke before we ever left
China so we are carrying his backpack and the suitcase in addition to our very
heavy backpacks.
Amy got her visa and they DID
renew it!!! Yahoo!!! AND they gave her a 10-year visa!!! Yahoo!
It is a 60 day visa so she will still have to go in and out of China
every 60 days, but she could stay for 10 years if she wanted to or can come
back anytime for the next 10 years!
We stopped in the lobby and ate our breakfast and
then walked over to find the subway. We
wanted to try it out so we knew how it worked before the family comes. We got on the subway at Ampang Park Station
and rode it to KL Sentral. There we got
a train to the KLIA airport. Our cost
for 2 adults and Mason was 85 ringgit – it was a better deal to take a taxi. WE made it to the airport 2 hours early so we
decided to eat. We ate lunch at KFC and
then had an ice cream cone at Marry Browns.
Skip the ice cream at Marry Browns.
It is sort of blah. We found our
way in to our gate. We had successfully
completed the first leg of our month long journey. Kuala Lumpur was a success!!!
We arrived on Penang after the 55 minute flight and we knew from our research that we had to find a taxi counter to purchase our voucher for the taxi. We were blessed again with a nice taxi driver. On our way, while in a bit of a traffic jam, he called our time share place to let them know when we would be there so they could meet us. We didn’t have a phone to call them and weren’t sure what we were going to do, but the Lord took care of us. We checked into our apartment and we are thrilled.

We have a great view of the city out to the ocean, we are across the street from a large Hindu Temple, and there is Amy, Mason and I got settled and then we went out walking. We immediately found some street food that looked interesting and delicious! It was rice noodles that had cane sugar and unsweetened coconut on it. You eat it with your hands and it was great! We walked down the street farther and found some baozi. These were different than in China and were filled with meat that was more like a BBQ pork and cubed pork rather than ground pork. Delicious!

We continued down the road and found a grocery store. It was good sized and was packed with so many people you literally could barely walk around! A crazy fun experience! We walked a little farther and we found an outdoor restaurant and we ate Roti Bakar, Roti Canai, and “Fried Chicken Fried Rice” (that is what I call it!) The food here in Penang IS even better than in Malaysia. We went back home, sent some emails in the wifi room and relaxed and went to bed.
