There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

FEBRUARY 13, 2015 -- FEBRUARY FLIGHT DAY #19

BANGKOK DAY #1
FEBRUARY 13, 2015

This city is the one that we were least sure of how we were getting from place to place.  We hired a driver from the airport because we just weren’t confident that we could have found the hostel from the subway, buses and maps that we had.  The same was for touring the temples, but we went in faith that we would get some help from the hostel staff and they pulled through for us!!!  We were able to get directions and bus numbers from the hostel to take us to the temples of Bangkok.  We could tell that everyone was starting to get tired as we had been traveling for over 3 weeks now!
We took the local bus to the temple area in Bangkok.  We went first to a temple called “Wat Pho”.  We had a child who needed a bathroom immediately so we bought our tickets and then ran to find the nearest bathroom.  After that, we then walked around and viewed the temple area.  We saw the enormous “reclining Buddah” and lots of beautiful tower structures that had so, so many detailed decoration on them.  We found one building that had a lot of small Buddah statues that were really interesting to read about and learn a little more about the culture.

Mason had fun with the camera for awhile.

It was time for lunch, so we found a street food area and gave each of the kids some money and they went with a buddy and bought their lunch.  Food choices ranged from mango rice to fried chicken to fruit, and more. We then went looking for a bit of a souvenir area and found some options for a boat ride.  Dad negotiated very well and got us a canal boat ride for really cheap!!!  Good job Dad!  We took a 1 hour ride up the canal and past the Royal Barges Museum.  We say lots of little shrines and other smaller temples from the canal.  We saw “floating market” ladies with wares to sell to the passing boats.  We also saw the way that these folks living on the canals put out their garbage for the garbage man!  Lots of culture to see!

We then walked down the road to find the temple that had the Jade Buddah.  On our way, we found “ice cream sandwiches” which were ice cream scoops on a hot dog bun!  Interesting!!!

We found the Jade Buddah Temple, but it was quite expensive and we were all pretty much “templed-out” so we didn’t go in.  We found a post card instead.  We headed back to find a bus stop so that we could go back to our hostel.  As we waited, the boys had sword fights with water bottles and got to run around.
