THANKSGIVING DINNER IN CHINA
November 26, 2014
It is the 4th Thursday in China, but that doesn't mean anything here in Suzhou. Our kids went to school and then Dad, Amy, David and I headed off for the market to shop for our Thanksgiving Dinner. We have invited 2 teachers to come have dinner with us and the kids are quite excited!
To start, we had to find a "turkey" but we only see chickens and geese at the wet market, so we go for 2 big chickens. They weren't cheap, but it was an experience as we picked out our chickens and then watched the man butcher them right there. The most unique part was after he dipped the dead bird into boiling hot water, he put those birds into what looked like a washing machine tub. That tub spun and spun and when they were done, they came out feather free. Totally amazing.
We then needed to pick out some other things for our feast.
David was anxious to get his hands on those birds! The birds were cleaned out but they still had their heads and feet on. We had to take care of that.
We decided to name our birds because one is a hen and one is a rooster and then we stuffed them 2 different ways and wanted to know which was which so we could to a taste comparison.
