· This week we spent quite a bit of time preparing for a big BBQ at the school. Last Sunday, Principal Martin Leigh sent me an email and asked if we would help put on a BBQ or the Fun Run event which was held on Saturday. We thought that would be fun so we started pricing food and did some test run on Pork burgers and off we went! On Friday, we made 102 pork patties and froze them. We also made lots of cole slaw, cut carrot, cucumber and bell pepper wedges, cooked 50 ears of corn and cut in half for 100 servings, and cut up 15 pineapples to grill. Saturday morning we started early to make sure the coal would heat and be ready – good thing we started early!!! It took forever to get that coal going! 2 ½ hour later, we had enough heat to put the big baking sheets directly on the coals to cook hamburgers. Dad was a hero and he had gone home to start cooking hamburgers there. Ms. Maloney was a hero for thinking of the idea to put the pans right on the coals! The coals were hot enough to heat the corn and grill the pineapple. In the end, the food tasted delicious and the people ate it all up! It was a beautiful day! The kids all ran in the “fun run” and then the also did a “race” on the 4 km course and Richard won with Benjamin in second place! I told Richard if he would win, I’d buy him 2 ice cream bars! I kept my deal and he had two zebra bars that night! It was a good day and was lots of fun.
