There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

OCTOBER 12-18, 2014 -- JEJU-DU ISLAND, SOUTH KOREA

JEJU-DU ISLAND, SOUTH KOREA
October 12-18, 2014

Amy needed to make another "visa run" to get her passport stamped.  She has to leave China every 60 days and then return with a new stamp.
We invited Kathy Nimmer to go with us and we went to an island off of South Korea which ended up being a beautiful paradise!
Connie and Amy outside our hostel

We spent a few hours along the coast watching the waves.  They got so high they made walls of water over he barrier.

These little stone guys were all over
Dragon Rock

We had some "Korean BBQ" and Kimchi before we left the big city up north.  We accidently ate the "salad" which was actually supposed to be saved for our wraps.  Ooops.  This lady came and instructed us how to eat.

We flew into the north part of the island and spent half the day seeing the bigger city there.  In the afternoon, we took a bus to the southern part of the island and found our hostel there.  The hostel was great and the staff were very helpful as we made our touring plans!

Amy and Kathy tried this bungy trampoline thing
We saw a black sand beach!

We followed these blue arrows up and down, literally, and all around ALL DAY LONG!
Is that the waterfall we are looking for?

What we did find was thousands of Mandarin Orange trees and they were incredibly delicious!!!  We ate tons of them!
Finally, the first of 3 waterfalls.
an ice cream tube for a treat
The 2nd of 3 waterfalls

We finally made it to all 3 waterfalls!!!  We are super amazing!

What started as a walk that we thought would last perhaps 2-3 hours BUT ended up being a 8+ hour day with over 30,000 steps.

JUMBO VILLAGE
We took a bus and then taxi out to Jumbo Village to see the elephant show.  It was quite fun.  WE fed some elephants and Amy and I were crazy enough to volunteer and of course they chose us -- the only foreigners in the audience!
We thought we were going to get to ride an elephant, but instead we got an "elephant massage."  Actually, we got spanked and stepped on by very large elephants.  Hey -- we got a free mug out of it!!!!

Amy took an elephant ride!

TEDDY BEAR MUSEUM
This was a fun and cute place to visit!

CHOCOLATE MUSEUM
This was a fun little adventure and Amy and I enjoyed the chocolate making class!  Yummy and we learned a few new tricks!

BOTANICAL GARDEN
The botanical garden was really fantastic!  We really enjoyed the day there and saw rainforest, desert cacti, tropical, growing kiwi, orchids, bonzai trees, fed some birds, ate ice cream and so much more!!!  It was great!

HAENYEO MUSEUM
We took a bus up to another area of the island to see this museum.  I was so intrigued by their history and their story.  We walked along a beach and found their little forts where they gather and some of their floating gear.  There was a big festival happening on the weekend, but we were just 1 day early.  We did find a little house where a group of Heanyeo Women who were gathtered and making some lunch.  It was so cool to see them and take their picture!  We then took at but to Sunrise Peak to see some real Heanyeo Women do some diving.  It was for show, but it was still cool.  I was still sore from our all day hike yesterday, so I waited while Amy and Kathy hiked up Sunrise Peak.  We then collected some shells to take home that were "harvested" by the Heanyeo Women."  I thought it was a super cool day!
