There is a quote: "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO PASS.... IT'S ABOUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN."
With 12 children and 5 adopted from Russia, we have had challenges and trials along with our joys. We have decided that we must
learn how to "dance in the rain." We must notice and acknowledge the joys and miracles in our lives.
They exist daily -- we just need to make sure we do not miss them!! This blog is to remind us of these miracles and joys!

OCTOBER 28, 2012: "MOTHER'S HEART" MOMENTS

A DAY OF  "MOTHER HEART" MOMENTS
October 28, 2012

I have a very, very dear friend that has touched my heart with her deep loving heart since we were sophomores in high school way back in 1984.  Her faith and insights into life have always helped me to grow.
I love reading her blog because I feel her depth and love everytime I read the thoughts of her heart.
I decided to make an attempt at following her example today since there are several things happening that are pulling at my own heart strings today in joyful, sentimental and sad ways.

This morning, Hyrum left to go back to BYU.  It was a short, but wonderful weekend to have him home.  I sure love my son!  When Hyrum given a priesthood blessing as an infant, his father said, "stay close to your mother and be a comfort to your mother."  That same phrase has been repeated in every blessing that Hyrum has received as far as I can remember.  It has always touched my heart.  Hyrum as always been sensitive to me and open about his life and happenings and has been a comfort to me through life.  When he returned home this weekend, he gave me a tight squeeze and a lengthy hug and said, "It is good to be home."  I don't think he realizes how much that meant to me and to my heart.  This morning as he left, I received another tight hug.  I told him I could let him go because I knew he would be back in less than a month for Thanksgiving.  Thank you son.

My dear friend has often shared songs on her blog which touch my heart, so I hope she doesn't mind if I copy her in that aspect as well.  Music always touches my heart or a better description would be that is totally attacks my heart with immediate emotions when I hear a song with a true message.  The spirit speaks so strong through music.

This song I found in September when I picked up a $5 CD from the discount bin while visiting my parents in Arizona.  I had it playing in the rental car as I pulled from away from their home to leave.  After you listen to it you will understand why I cried for a good 30 minutes as I drove away to meet my flight home.  This weekend, I remembered the love that flooded my heart as a child who felt so much love for my mother.  As I think of Hyrum and his hugs this weekend, I feel the same flood of love, but as a mother this time.  Love is an amazing thing.  So powerful in so many ways.  The same yet in different roles.  I love all of my children so, so much.  My "Mother Heart" is returning after so many years of stress and heart ache.  It is impossible to describe the love that a mother has for her children.  I pray that all my children will feel the depth of my love for them as described in this post, though the post is focused on Hyrum and his visit.

I couldn't find a video of Jim Brickman singing this song, but this is a nice video made by a church somewhere.  You'll have to search it and find it on your own.  Jim Brickman "A Mother's Day"  He also sings "A Mother's Love" which is wonderful, but is different.  I have also included a clip that uses Disney movie clips which is cute.  I think that I will need to make my own slideshow video of this song!

OCTOBER 27: "PLAN 9"

"PLAN 9" PERFORMANCES
October 25-27, 2012

Today I got to have a turn to go see Benjamin and Bethany
perform in "Plan 9."
I love to see how they both are growing as actors!!!

The director of Arts Live Theatre, Mark Smith, took this old 1959 black and white film, that is heralded as the worst movie ever, and turned it into a comedy stage play.  Here is the link if you would like to watch the original movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5DZhDH8eew

Here are a zillion pictures of our 2 stars!
Benjamin plays "Colonel Sanders" and Bethany play "Officer Pipps."

Bethany lays knocked out for about 10 minutes!

Officer Pipps is a goofy and bit obnoxiously silly detective

Colonel Sanders and General Mills

We had to eat lunch at KFC in honor of Benjamin -- Colonel Sanders!

OCTOBER 26, 2012: A BUSY FRIDAY!

A BUSY FRIDAY!
OCTOBER 26, 2012

Dad was out of town for the day so that always puts me in the car doing the running. I started early with parent/teacher conferences, brought Ben's friend home with us for the day & night, I took the kids into Dr. Fleming's office for chiropractic adjustments, and then a run by Sam's Club.

Hyrum came home this weekend for the last FHS Band Performance at the football game. It is fun for all of us!!!  We have missed him!

This afternoon, we packed Matthew for his campout tonight where it is supposed to get down to 32 degrees!  Eeek!

Joseph got his "goodie bags" packed for the saxophone section and then Hyrum and Joseph left for a night of FHS band!!

Matthew got packed and left for the campout!

Benjamin, Bethany and Bates will be at the "Plan 9" performance at Arts Live Theater and then have the cast part afterwards!

David and I bundled up for the last home football game and were successful and staying warm!!!  With my Russian wool sweater, I was great!  David was good with 8 pairs of socks, 5 shirts, scarf, ear muffs, and more!  It was a great game and FHS ended up beating Har-Ber 38-21!  Go Bulldogs!
Dad will come home about 9pm and probably come to the high school and we will pick up the "3 Bs" at ALT at 9:45pm.

Home we will go to put on a "Nacho Bar" for a party -- of course there is a party because Hyrum is home!!!  Several of his friends are home from college this weekend so it will be lots of fun to see them!!!

Life is good with kids doing lots of good things!

OCTOBER 24, 2012: PACK MTG, YW IN EXCELLENCE, AND LANTERNS

PACK MEETING, YOUNG WOMEN IN EXCELLENCE, AND LANTERNS
OCTOBER 24, 2012:

Tonight was busy since we had 2 kiddos at dress rehearsal for their play, Dad and 2 kiddos went with the scouts to the "crime lab" at the Springdale Police Department and I stayed at the church with Mason and did a split shift between Young Women in Excellence and Pack Meeting!  Whew!
It was great!
Rachel and Rebecca had displays for Young Women in Excellence and it was a really nice program.

Rebecca displayed a picture of Mason because she likes to take care of little kids, a toy fish and fish net to represent her fish tank, and several books that we have read in homeschool so far.

Rachel displayed several things that she has made from your creative ideas!  She displayed a doll bed that she and her friend made out of craft sticks for her American Girl Doll, a purse that she made from scraps of jean pants that I threw away after cutting denim quilt blocks, and she displayed the football helmet and shoulder pads that she made out of cardboard and duct tape.

After the program, we went outside and the girls all lit lanterns that represented themselves and sent them rising up into the dark sky.  This represented them rising and shining in the world with the flame being their testimony of Jesus Christ that burns with in them and carries them through life.  It was really cool!!!

Mom helps Rachel get hers lit but with the wind and our inexperience, it didn't get airborn.  The sides of the paper lantern burned enough to make a hole and then it didn't work.  BUT..... our experienced helped others  learn and they were successful and learned tricks to get them airborn and Rachel went around and helped others and loved it!  Mason did a great job supervising!

Here is a lantern taking off into the night!

To the right, Rachel helps Rebecca work to get hers ready to float!

The rising lanterns were really a beautiful sight!!
All the materials in the lanterns are biodegradable and environmentally safe!!  No wires, etc. :)

PACK MEETING
During this time, Daniel and David had Pack Meeting.  For their activity, they were able to explore a fire truck that came to the church parking lot just for them!
After their activity, they called me in and I was able to take pictures of them getting their awards!!!
Daniel earned 4 or 5 Webelo Activity pins.  David earned his Wolf Badge with 1 gold arrow point and 4 silver!!!  The boys are going great!!!
Daniel and David are quite the energetic boys!  They loved the fire truck and were so proud of their awards in scouts!

OCTOBER 23, 2012, TUESDAY -- FHS BAND COMPETITION

JOSEPH'S FINAL BAND COMPETITION
OCTOBER 23, 2012

Tonight, Daniel and Mom went to the last band competition for the FHS Band. It is always fun to watch Joseph!  Dad took the rest of the kids to a dress rehearsal for "Plan 9" that Benjamin and Bethany are in.  Dad will be out of town for the performances.

FHS received a Superior/1 rating!!!  Go Bulldog Band!!
Here is a video of their show.  It is up close, but you can see Joseph!
Also, towards the end I tried to take photos while video taping so it is even shakier than the rest of it!  :)
I need a tri-pod!

OCTOBER 21, 2012, SUNDAY -- "READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!"

 "READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!"
 OCTOBER 21, 2012

Today I, Mom, played organ in church for unit conference.  A tad stressful, but fun.  I wish I could play organ and pedals like Melissa!  Maybe someday!

In the afternoon, the kids colored and cut to make fall decorations for their bedroom doors.  Daniel has drawn a few silly pictures that he hung up in the upstairs hallway as well.

For Family Home Evening, I passed out a little package of materials for a little craft -- but it didn't have ANY instructions.  We talked about this and then applied it to our lives and using the Word of God as our instructions.  We also talked about having the instructions available but not reading them!  Are they helpful or valuable if we don't use them?
Then we made our crafts and the kids hung them on their bedroom doors.
It was a fun evening.

Not sure what Mason is trying to do, but he is still cute!
Bethany works to glue her cute little purple spider together
Mason loved his spiders!  It hangs on our bedroom door since he thinks that is his room and his bed.  :)
